THE SCAR PROJECT: Breast Cancer is not a Pink Ribbon

http://www.thescarproject.org/

A series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project puts a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of so many brave young [people].

Up until tonight I never knew exactly what breast cancer survivors looked like after surgery. These courageous [people] inspire, move and tastefully challenge our notions of beauty. How is it that cancer can reak such havoc on their bodies, yet they are still so unspeakably gorgeous?

- Kate

Looking at these photos, I can’t imagine anyone trying to justify “Save the Boobies” merchandise. It is not about the boobies. It is about all these people.

I have always been a huge supporter of the scar project for pointing out how slacktivist the whole deal is with the pink ribbons and the pink tennis balls and the pink cookies. and nothing pisses me off more than the “save the boobies” etc. garbage and I can’t understand why more people don’t find the sexualization of breast cancer “awareness” more obscene.

breast cancer survivors are exceptionally strong people, and the scar project really helps hit that point home.

I am really confused right now.

scaragh:

Not blaming, just confused.

I was scrolling through the Eowyn tag, and I saw this:

and I thought perhaps it was a reblog of the post my friend made a few months ago, which looked like this:

And it’s the same exact post, with the same amount of a’s in the “Rah”s and everything.

Now, obviously re-posts aren’t anything new, and I’m not even griping that it’s not the original post. It wouldn’t be weird if this was from a movie, or a meme, or something. But it’s a quote of a conversation my friends and I had at the time, and we thought was silly, so one of them posted it to her tumblr.

So….I just don’t know how it ended up re-posted here, rather than reblogged, unless this other tumblr account is secretly Emily, Jash, Tanya, Miranda, or me on a different account/from a parallel universe.

Waaaait wait wait wait.

So someone actually..  STOLE from us??

I think this is the first experience I’ve ever had of this happening. or at least the first I’ve known about it… makes me kind of paranoid.

but seriously yeah. Its a conversation!

#AND IT HAS MORE NOTES THAN MINE THOUGH.

I know! That’s what upset me most.

…but I guess….whatever. I just wanted to share the creepiness with you heh heh

Filed under but seriously isn't it more work to write down and re-post someone's quote rather than just reblog it? it's just weird man I hope I'm not making too big a deal outta this kittykeoko eluvai jashiku superpuffin
